    Preeclampsia and Eclampsia

    Preeclampsia and eclampsia are conditions that are experienced by woman during their gestation period. These are characterized by high blood pressure. They are common in first time pregnancies. Teenage people and women over the age of 40 are at risk in getting these problems. When preeclampsia is not treated properly, it may develop to eclampsia. Eclampsia include the development of seizures in a woman with preesclampsia.

    Eclampsia is serious for each mother and baby and may even be fatal. maternity|toxaemia of pregnancy toxemia toxaemia was erstwhile referred to as toxemia of pregnancy. while not treatment, it\'s been calculable that one out of two hundred cases of preeclampsia achieve seizures (eclampsia). Estimates of the incidence of preeclampsia vary from two to six in healthy ladies who haven't before born.

    Preeclampsia may develop after the twentieth week of pregnancy. It may sometimes develop in the days following birth. Symptoms of preesclampsia may include:

    • Hypertension
    • Protein in the urine

    These problems are negligible and you may not notice it. But, your doctor may notice this problem during your antenatal appointments. High blood pressure is a common problem among pregnant women. So, this alone cannot be considered as a symptom of preesclampsia. But, the presence of protein in the urine is a good sign of the condition. Symptoms of preeclampsia can be found in unborn babies also. The main thing among this is the slow growth of the baby. The problem of preeclampsia can be diagnosed using tests such as urine tests, blood pressure tests.

    Preeclampsia can only be cured after the delivery. But, rest and medications are suggested during the pregnancy period in order to decrease the risks of hypertension.

    When preeclampsia left untreated, it becomes, eclampsia. When the condition of preeclampsia progresses, it may also develop other symptoms such as:

    • swelling in the feet, ankles, face and hands as a result of fluid retention (oedema)
    • Severe headaches
    • Problems with vision
    • Vomiting
    • Generally unwell feeling and
    • Pain in the upper abdomen.

    Immediately seek the doctor if you face these symptoms during your pregnancy period. One of the common complication of severe esclampsia is the pulmonary edema. Esclampsia is treated with medication to control seizure. Medication may vary according to the severity of the condition. When eclamptic seizure occur, magnesium sulfate is used as the first-line treatment. Esclampsia is a serious health condition which can even cause death. There are no techniques to prevent preeclampsia and eclampsia. Only the risks and outcomes can be prevented with medication and care.
